Intermingling Possibilities | 2013
“The atoms or elementary particles themselves are not real; they form a world of potentialities or possibilities rather than one of things or facts”
A world of potentialities. I feel it in the process of making art. I often like to simultaneously leave things open ended yet create illustionistic suggestions of things seen in the natural world.
I once had a conversation with a man who had just purchased one of my paintings at an opening museum reception where I had an exhibition. I think he was a little shy and was coerced into talking to the artist… Being the artist, I felt compelled to explain how the piece came about. Self consciously I tried to explain it’s conceptual merits without using too much art speak or get overly lofty when he asserted “I just see the universe”. It may have been lofty, but I was sure it was heartfelt, and my art speak seemed entirely superfluous. It may have been the best response I had ever received.
